If you are a commercial contractor who previously did not need workers'
compensation insurance, you must now purchase workers' compensation
insurance by July 1, 2010, as a result of House Bill 3242 passed by the
2007 Legislature. This is a condition for your CCB license. You can find
additional information about this law and who is required to purchase
workers' compensation insurance by calling the Construction Contractors
Board at 503-378-4621 or visiting their Web site at www.oregon.gov/CCB
.
Earlier this month Oregon OSHA released the top 25 most
frequently violated standards. This list can be helpful to employers in
the management of safety and risk programs. The most often sited issue
was the lack of a hazard communication program. The standard receiving
the most penalties was guarding unprotected sides and edges. If you
