LaPorte’s 2017 Charity Committee
Lyndsay Kooistra, Emma Passe, Kiera Maciel, Shelley Pace
To start our year off we are putting together a LaPorte Team for the 41st Annual Lake Run on May 13th. The Lake Oswego Women’s Club that sponsors the Lake Run works with many local charities like CASA and Clackamas Women’s Center. Next we will be distributing boxes to local Portland Sporting Goods Stores asking for life jacket donations. All donations will go to support Meg’s Moments. Our next event will be for Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals. LaPorte will hold an open house fundraiser in September including a pet adoption. We will end our year by adopting a family for Christmas and providing gifts, clothing, and other necessities in support of the Christmas Family Adoption Foundation. We’re proud to support all of these organizations that serve, and impact our local community.
Meg’s Moments For Life Jackets
This nonprofit was started by Jan O’Meara one of the employees of LaPorte. She and her family started this organization when they lost their daughter Meagan to a drowning accident in 2013 on the Clackamas River. They now raise funds and collect new & used life jackets to make sure this type of tragedy never happens again. This year they were able to collect & buy 500 life jackets to give away and to supply kiosks at State Parks.
Our life jacket giveaway will be held July 1, 2017 at Barton Park, Boring Oregon 97009 starting at 10:00 a.m.
If you’re interested in donating to Meg’s Moments for Life Jackets please visit their GoFundMe page at:www.gofundme.com/28u7dus.
Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals
Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals has been working tirelessly for many years to save homeless pets from high-kill shelters. OFOSA has grown from a small kitchen table operation with a handful of passionate animal lovers to become a respected leader in this cause, helping to support several local shelters, rescues and hundreds of foster homes. We transport thousands of animals every year out of overcrowded kill shelters from as far away as California. We have skilled and trained medical staff with a fully functioning spay and neuter clinic, providing thousands of surgeries per year. Also allowing us to be one of the few shelters in the Northwest that will tackle hard to treat medical illnesses and infections such as ringworm and the parvo virus.
LaPorte will be holding an open house fundraiser in September with carrier partners with a pet adoption.
Christmas Family Adoption Foundation
Founded in 2002 when Mike Burright realized a local family with two small children would not have the Christmas every family deserves unless he stepped in. That year the 1st family was helped and to date 2,508 families have been helped in the Greater Portland Metro area. Their mission is to create a positive and memorable holiday by giving gifts, clothing and necessities to families in need. Families are nominated by a Nominating Partner – an approved Government or Social Worker/Agency.
LaPorte will be adopting a family and providing gifts, clothing and other necessities for Christmas.
